CITY PLANNING 2 - A Daytrip
A performance for the city
City Planning is always an incomplete work. Our every day routes remake the environment around us - our personal geographies are mapped on to the built environment of the city constituting an "immaterial" architecture. In the contemporary urban situation, where the social spaces of the city are under threat, these practices of everyday life offer strategies of resistance.
The geography of the city of Athens changes every summer - small scenes take place on the balconies generating a alternative topography blurring what is private space and what is public. This summer we invite you to an unexpected day trip: A day trip in the evening, a daytrip to the familiar, to what we have stopped looking. This day trip is a mapping of Athens – through the bodies and habitual practices of its inhabitants.
In a school in the centre of Athens we create a model of the city, a microgram, a map. Everyday people, inhabitants, performers and children collaborate for an ephemeral construction.
We invite audience to a daytrip to what is familial, to what is happening right now and no one is watching. A microgram of the city of Athens as we experience it today. A temporary neighborhood in Petralona, a heterotopia, a home.
